EUROCLASSICA
European Federation of Associations of Teachers of Classical Languages and Civilisation
About us
EUROCLASSICA is independent and self-supporting, with members from many major European countries – from Sweden to Malta and from Portugal to Cyprus. Each member association contributes a small annual subscription fee to support our initiatives and activities.
We meet annually at a conference held at the end of August in a different European country each year. Recent conferences have taken place in Athens (GR), Leiden (NL), London (UK), and Antwerp (BE).
For further information, please contact the EUROCLASSICA representative of your national association, browse thiurh our website, or follow us on Twitter @EUROCLASSICA.
A European Network for Classical Education
Over two million children and young people study Classics at school in Europe today. Each country has its own traditions for learning about the ancient world, but what can Classics teachers in schools learn from each other? Each country has a professional association for teachers to communicate with each other and to update their skills. EUROCLASSICA provides a unique platform for these national associations to come together and see what is happening in the world of Classics teaching in other European countries. We can see that currentissues not only affect our own schools but others as well. We can help each other by exchanging experiences and resources to promote Classics in our own schools.
EUROCLASSICA Publications
Europatria – foundational Latin texts for European countries. Europatrida – foundational Greek texts for European countries. European Symbols. A European Schoolbook – texts illustrating the continuance of Classics in European countries.
ELEX and EGEX
EUROCLASSICA offers its own certificates to learners of Latin and Greek who take the European Latin or Greek examination. This is set every year for entry-level (Vestibulum) and intermediate level (Ianua). There is no fee for this certificate.
EUROCLASSICA Summerschools
EUROCLASSICA runs several Summer Schools: Academia Homerica in Greece, Academia Ragusina in Croatia, Academia Saguntina in Spain, summer courses of Malta Classics Association, and others.
